The 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition proved to be a breakout year for Livermore Valley wineries. With 143 award winners from the region, critics, wine experts and consumers are taking notice of the recent success from the Livermore Valley.

Now you have the chance to celebrate Livermore Valley’s big winners during an intimate winemaker dinner to be held Friday, February 24th at Wente Vineyards. This is sure to be a memorable evening highlighting the award-winning wines, smartly paired with tempting courses from The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards. The gourmet menu includes:

2009 Cuda Ridge Wines MerlotBest of Class- paired with ahi tuna carpaccio, black olives, pickled red onions, fried caper berries, micro greens and herb oil.

2009 Bent Creek Cabernet SauvignonBest of Class- paired with creamy herbed polenta, wild mushroom- oven dried tomato ragout, charred red peppers and focaccia crisp.

2008 Wente Vineyards Nth Degree SyrahBest of Class- paired with smoked grimaud farms guinea hen confit, braised white beans, radicchio, bacon broth.

2008 McGrail Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon ReserveRed Sweepstake Winner- paired with mesquite grilled flat iron, carrot puree, roasted cipollini and salsa verde.

A dessert reception will follow with specially selected wine from each winery.

The evening kicks off at 6:30 pm with a welcome reception. The winemaker dinner and dessert reception will immediately follow from 7:00- 10:00 pm at the Wente Vineyards Event Center. A limited number of tickets are available for purchase online for this intimate evening.

According to Heather McGrail of McGrail Vineyards, the Livermore Valley Winemaker Dinner is just one example of the collaboration evident among wineries throughout the region.

“Everyone was very excited about the results from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and Larry Dino from Cuda Ridge winery approached us about partnering for a winemaker dinner,” said McGrail. “Fortunately, most Livermore wineries enjoy working together and believe in the philosophy that working together creates greatness.”

McGrail Vineyards Winemaker, Mark Clarin, also agrees that the results from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition are just the beginning of great things to come for the Livermore Valley.

“The Livermore Valley has a rich and long history of producing exceptional wines over the past 150 plus years. Among the varieties historically recognized are Sauvignon Blanc and Petite Sirah,” said Clarin. “As we have moved into the 21st Century we are proving that many noble grape varieties can produce outstanding wines including our Cabernet Sauvignon. Livermore Valley AVA – We are cooler than you think.”

Wente Vineyards invites guests to an admission-free Earth Day Celebration from 1-5 pm on Sunday, April 17, 2011. Enjoy a full day of great food, wine, tours and entertainment.

Tour the recently re-awarded Audubon Sanctuary at The Course at Wente.

The celebration will provide visitors a time to reflect on promoting respect for life and encourage awareness for air, water and soil pollution. Wente Vineyards is excited to mark Earth Day by highlighting their ongoing sustainability efforts and green initiatives.

Get a look behind the scenes at Wente’s green efforts with complimentary tours of the property with an on-site garden tour at 2, 3 and 4pm, led by Master Gardener Diane Dovholuk. Or tour the recently re-awarded Audubon Sanctuary at The Course at Wente Vineyards at 2, 3 and 4pm.

There will also be entertainment throughout the day with performances from local musicians.

Make Earth Day at Wente Vineyards a family affair. Several hands-on activities for kids, including a place for kids to craft jewelry from recycled products and a worm composting station, will provide a fun learning environment.

Enjoy a special Earth Day three-course menu at The Restaurant at Wente.

Wente Vineyards will feature presentations detailing sustainability at 1:30 and 3:30pm.

Earth Day at Wente Vineyards is an admission-free event, but food & wine is available for purchase. Stroll through the beautiful grounds and enjoy dishes available through purchase from Catering with Wente Vineyards.

The award-winning Restaurant at Wente Vineyards will offer a special three-course menu featuring ingredients sourced from the property’s organic garden, priced at $42.

Purchase tickets to taste six wines, two from Wente Vineyards, Tamas Estates and Murrieta’s Well. Tickets are $15 per person and $10 for Wente Vineyards, Murrieta’s Well and Tamas Estates Club Members and can be purchased at the event.

Discover the inspiration behind The Restaurant at Wente’s new Local Menu with a complimentary tour of the beautiful vegetable and herb garden. The tour kicks off at the restaurant with an introduction by Executive Chef Eric Berg and a glass of Mint Garden Lemonade. Guests then head outside to the 1,000 square foot herb and vegetable garden as Master Gardener Diane Dovholuk leads an herb tasting and tour.

Following the tour, guests can watch Executive Chef Berg as he demonstrates an innovative recipe using handpicked garden ingredients. A carefully developed two-course lunch menu for $19 is also available. Each week new dishes are showcased based on changes in the garden. Optional wine pairings with each course are also be available.

This is a great family friendly activity. Children are invited to the tours and it provides a great experience to learn how ingredients go from the garden to their favorite dish. Upcoming tour dates are August 26, September 9 and 23 at 10:30 a.m. by reservation only and space is limited. Call 925.456.2450 to reserve a spot and make a lunch reservation.

The Local Menu is available Monday thru Thursday for lunch and dinner.
